Progress our children make

What are our expectations of progress?

We expect pupils in Year 3,4,5 and 6 to make 4 average points scores (APS) each year, we also hold the highest of aspirations that a percentage of pupils will make exceeded progress of 5 APS or more.

Levels and APS

Levels children at working at begin at 1c which is the start of the national curriculum, levels then increase as children attain knowledge and can apply their skills. The table below shows levels which can be attained during Key Stage 1 and the point score linked to them.

Level (Lowest to highest)

4b (age related at the end of Yr6) 27
4a 29
5c 31
5b 33
5a 35
6c 37

We expect that if a child is at 3a at the end of Year5 giving them a point score of 23, they would then expect them to reach 27 as a point score by the end of Year 6 which would equate to a 4b. We would expect some pupils to make exceeded progress.

What progress did our pupils make in 2014?

The following data is based on children making 12 point scores from Year 3 through to Year 6. This equates to 2 National Curriculum levels (for exmaple if children acheived 2b in KS1 this would eqaute to 4b at Yr6).

% of children acheiving expected progress % of children acheiving exceeding progress
Reading 79% 46%
Writing 100% 71%
Maths 66% 33%
