History

Each Term at Henry Whipple Primary School, we have  a half termly History or Geography focus and make connections between the two subjects whenever it is relevant and purposeful.

In History, we offer  a high-quality history education that will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Our curriculum is  designed to inspire pupils’ curiosity about the past and know how it has shaped the modern world. From EYFS to year 6 children gain cumulative knowledge of key concepts such as civilizations, power, commemoration, exploration, culture, technology and legacy.  Children work as Historians by looking at history through different lenses. These are handling evidence, historic interpretation, historical significance, similarity and difference, cause and consequence and change and continuity. Children use these lenses to make connections, draw contrasts, analyse trends, frame historically valid questions and create their own structured accounts, including written narratives and analyses.

Our History curriculum is enriched by high quality 'learning away' experiences such as residentials to Celtic Harmony and Hadrian's wall. These give our children life long memories to frame their learning.
