Our Reading Mentors 2025-2026

Meet the Reading Mentors....

The new Reading Mentors are:

 

Year 1 - Lena

Year 2 - Aiza

Year 3 - Ahmad

Year 4 - Kanisiri and David

Year 5 - Seteminire and Oliver

Year 6 - Julia and Daksha

Our priorities this year will include: 

  • Record reading percentages weekly. 
  • Ensure the reading room is being used for full impact. 
  • Hello Yellow Day - children to organise books to share with their class to discuss mental health and well-being. 
  • Promote Reading for Pleasure.
  • Reading dens - to continue to monitor the effectiveness of our classroom reading dens. 
  • World Book Day - children to design and create something for the children to share.
  • The Reading Well - create a space in our atrium area for reading for pleasure.  
  • Pupil voice
  • Empathy Day

Empathy Day 2026

 

Empathy Day is on Thursday 11th June. 

The Reading Mentors will be gathering a collection of resources for the whole school to take part in. 

 

Empathy grows as you read!

Thursday 4th June 

The Reading Mentors had a meeting with Mrs Duryea today to discuss our actions for Empathy Day. They are excited to share with the rest of the school ways we can ‘Jump into Someone Else’s Story’
 

Next week at HWPS, we will be taking part in various tasks to develop our empathy skills.
