Science Investigation with our resident Scientist - Separating Materials

Cheerleading

Y5 have been taught how to lift a ‘flyer’ by working as a team. Our coach, Lorraine, demonstrated.
In maths, we have been learning about fractions.  We have found equivalents, converted fractions and will be adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators.  We are linking our multiplication and division knowledge to help make good progress.

Converting improper fractions to mixed numbers

We are developing our letter writing skills and using 'The Great Elephant Chase' as a stimulus. In the book, Cissie, who is one of the main characters, writes to Ketty to tell her all about what is happening. In our letter, we aim to explain what is happening to Khush the elephant and also explain how Tad and Cissie are coping with everything that happens to them.

KNOWLEDGE ORGANISER - JANUARY 2019

WELCOME TO CLASS 5!

Mr Catchpole and Mrs Chambers would like to extend our welcome to all children and parents.  We hope you enjoy our learning!

Our new class reading book is 'Kensuke's Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo. We have just read the part where the letter arrives that changes everything.

SPRING TERM LEARNING AWAY

We will be going to Cromford Mills in Derbyshire in January.  This will reinforce our topic learning about the Industrial Revolution.  Cromford Mills were set up to create textiles by Sir Richard Arkwright, a very important figure of this time.

The shuttle game improves hand-eye co-ordination, as well as getting children used to the flight of a badminton shuttlecock. And it’s great fun😄
